Welcome to Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club
Set on Lock Island, overlooking Hamhaugh Island and the Weybridge bank of the Thames, our club enjoys a beautiful and peaceful setting. With its picturesque views and relaxed, holiday-like atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to leave the real world behind for a while.

A Unique Training Environment
Shepperton SCC is proud to be one of only a few permanent slalom sites in the South East. Our course features movable gates, accessible from both the bank and the water, offering flexible training options. We have calm areas ideal for flat-water practice, plus a gentle side spill current for developing skills.
When it rains, between 1 and 10 sluice gates may be open, creating exciting white water conditions. With 5 to 8 gates flowing, we offer one of the best waves in the country!
The weir pool provides direct access to the River Thames, ideal for longer paddles. We regularly use it for our warm-up and training loop (around 6 minutes) around the nearby ‘short’ (D’Oyly Carte) Island.

Training, Events & Membership
Members meet regularly for coach-led training sessions, suitable for all skill levels, including those who are complete beginners. We compete at all levels in national ranking events and host four events each year at our own site.
While we don’t hire out canoes or kayaks, we do offer beginner sessions with club-provided equipment. We can supply a limited number of boats, paddles, and buoyancy aids, so you’re welcome to try paddling before deciding to invest in your own gear.
Our club is entirely non-commercial and run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. We’re always looking to welcome new members into our supportive and active community.
Many paddlers are happy to share advice, and some may even have kit available to sell.
A Competitive but Supportive Spirit
Shepperton Slalom Canoe Club is a competitive club, but not all members actively participate in racing, and that’s completely okay. Whether you want to race or just enjoy the water and community, you’ll be supported and encouraged at your own pace.
Interested in Trying It Out?
Visitors are always welcome to attend our sessions and events. Some equipment is available for loan, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
If you’d like to give it a try or have any questions, please contact Ben at ben.willmott@gmail.com or click 'How to Join' to find out more.

What's coming up?
Each year, we typically hold three events at the club, which run across two days, Saturday and Sunday, covering the different levels and divisions.

All the events for 2025 have been held.
