Training Information

Take a moment to read about the training sessions offered throughout the year. It’s important to understand where each one takes place, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced paddler.

If you’re unsure which training is right for you, please don't hesitate to ask; we’re always happy to help point you in the right direction.

If you’re keen to attend additional sessions or feel ready to move up a level, please speak to your coach first. It’s important that all coaches are informed in advance about who is attending their sessions for safety reasons

Saturday - Beginner

When: 10.30

Coach: Shaun

Frequency: Spring, Summer and Autumn only

The beginners’ group is a fantastic introduction to paddling — a chance to build confidence on the water, have fun, and explore the river in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Most weeks, the group heads up the Thames to discover different stretches of the river, often finishing with a bit of gentle practice on the lower gates when water levels are low.

All equipment is provided — paddlers just need to turn up in clothes they don’t mind getting wet.

Saturday - Intermediate

When: 10.00

Coach: Paul

Frequency: All year round

The intermediate group acts as a bridge between the beginner group, which focuses on building confidence on the water, and the advanced training sessions.

This training centres on slalom gates, developing the skills and techniques needed to become a successful slalom paddler, while ensuring the sessions remain both enjoyable and challenging.

Participants in the intermediate group typically compete in slalom competitions and generally paddle at the Division 4 to Division 2 level.

Eligibility for the intermediate training is determined by Paul Mew, one of our coaches.
